UCSC Extension printed the wrong class description in their paper catalog.
Still use the class number 4945-011 to enroll, but here is the correct description:
Photography Without LensesX487.7 ART (2.0) |
PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY AND
CYANOTYPE PHOTOGRAMS
Pinhole photography and photograms belong to a magical world of simplicity and surprise--a world in which creativity, imagination and the unexpected replace expensive and complex technology, previsualization and the zone system. Pinhole photography uses no lenses, shutters, or viewfinders, and is an ideal medium for expressing memory, fantasy and dream. Photograms are images made without cameras, by placing objects on a light-sensitive emulsion. We will be using cyanotype, an ultraviolet contact printing process resulting in a rich blue print. Participants can easily continue making these at home, as a darkroom is not necessary.
Materials will be provided to make Holga cameras (120 roll film format) into “Pinholgas,” and to make pinhole cameras out of paint cans. Cyanotype chemistry and a limited amount of paper will also be provided.
The instructors will share their own pinhole work, cameras, and cyanotype imagery, and will acquaint participants with a brief history of both these techniques. This mind-expanding class is appropriate for both beginners and advanced photographers. Technical expertise is not necessary--it might even be a handicap!
The private location for this workshop will provide participants with exclusive access to a section of the beautiful shoreline near the Monterey Aquarium; darkroom facilities are available on campus. There is private parking and a wide choice of restaurants in the immediate vicinity, as well as picnic tables for bag lunches.
This workshop coincides with Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, on Sunday. Participants are encouraged to sign up early, as this weekend also coincides with the Big Sur Marathon, and hotel rooms are booked up fast!
